Regarded as the most attractive, unspoilt and charming town on the Costa del
Sol, with the best all year round climate in Europe.

Nerja
is where the mountains of the Sierra Almijara come down and meet the sea. It is
a Spanish town, not a 'tourist' town, in a spectacular setting between the
foothills of the mountains and the sparkling Mediterranean. A place where clear
fresh mountain water flows in abundance, making the village a paradise of trees,
flowers and colour, all year round. It lies in one of Spain's richest farming
areas; abundant with fruit, vegetables and flowers; this is known as the 'Garden
of Europe". It is an area of outstanding beauty situated in the midst of a
tropical valley where you will find olive groves, avocado trees, fields of wild
strawberries and the greatest variety of exotic plants all encouraged by what is
considered to be the best all year round climate in Europe.
|
|
Because of its unique location, and being protected from the north by the
majestic, snow capped, Sierra Nevada range, Nerja has its own micro-climate
which includes approximately 320 days of sunshine per year. It has a temperate
climate which means that in winter the daytime temperatures rarely fall below
16ÂșC and in summer they do not reach the sweltering temperatures of inland
Spain.

There is little rainfall but what there is tends to fall during the winter
seasons of November, December and January. This does vary hugely from year to
year and there have been some dry years recently. The good news is that even
when it does rain you can be sure that the sun is never far away.

Nerja is essentially a Spanish village, with a kind and friendly community who
will welcome you on every visit. Stroll through the narrow white-washed streets
and you will discover interesting court-yards, colourful shops and local people
simply sitting in the sun this is the typical Nerja atmosphere, unhurried and
relaxed.

Unquestionably
the most attractive resort on the Costa del Sol, Nerja lies on the eastern most
part of the Province of Malaga, some 35 miles (55 kilometres) to the east of the
historic city of Malaga. To the west it is joined by the towns of Torrox and
Torre del Mar and to the east along the spectacular Costa Tropicale there are
numerous picturesque seaside villages with their breathtaking scenery and sandy
coves. Further east is the town of Salobrena clinging to the steep side of a
rock, close to the sea. An Arab fortress crowns the summit and from here there
is the magnificent view on one side of the glittering Mediterranean and to the
north of the Granada plains stretching upwards towards the majestic snow- capped
Sierra Nevada mountain range.
|
|
On
either side of the Balcon & the town you will discover a selection of sandy blue
flag beaches including: Torrecilla, El Salon, Calahonda, El Chorrillo, Carabeo,
plus the most well known & largest beach - Burriana, which has a marvellous
choice of front line, sea facing restaurants and bars.
You will find
a seemingly never ending choice of restaurants and traditional Tapas bars with
delicious food and friendly service. Or, you may prefer to try one of the
typically Andalusian beach restaurants where you can enjoy anything from freshly
grilled sardines (a local speciality!) to Spain's finest Paella, having just
watched it being freshly prepared over a wood fire.

The narrow winding streets are a joy to wonder through, and you will be sure to
discover many wonderful shops and market stalls.
|
|
To the east of Nerja (10 mins drive) you will find 'Nerja Caves' where there are
cave paintings dating back over 20,000 years, and classical concerts are held
every July.
|
|
The
entire area is one of outstanding beauty with tropical valleys where you will
find avocado, olive and many exotic fruits, some of which because of its unique
climate grow nowhere else outside of the Caribbean. The area is surrounded by
the magnificent Sierra Almijara mountain range, which protect the town &
produces the best all year climate in Europe.
|
|
A 15 minute drive inland brings you to the mountain village of Frigiliana, which
has twice been a past winner of 'the most beautiful village in Spain' award.
This historic village has narrow cobbled streets, lovely white houses with
flower baskets & tubs, and amazing panoramic views down the valley to the sea.
